Health & Safety
Each window cleaning job is comprehensively reviewed prior to any work taking place and risk assessments and method statements are systematically produced. A typical risk assessment evaluation will address and action the following issues:
- Are the staff employed to clean the windows competent to do so?
- Have they been given adequate training and guidance?
- Are the windows being cleaned higher than 1st floor level?
- Can the windows be cleaned safely form the inside thus avoiding any work at height (greater than 2 metres)?
- Can the Reach & Wash (extendable poles) be used to avoid working at height?
- Is there a risk of falling through glazed panels?
- Injury arising from road & traffic accident from the Reach and Wash vehicle?
- Electrocution from pole coming into contact with overhead power source?
The above criteria is supported by a method statement as below:
- Use of gloves and protectives at work
- Display hazard signs at the workplace making sure they are visible to all
- Check all equipment before use, advise management if equipment needs replacing
- Use the extension pole for windows beyond reach
- After use all equipment should be checked, cleaned, dried and returned to the storage area
